ACI Principal

Richard WillardRichard Willard — Mr. Willard has 35 years of experience in aerospace vehicle design, analysis, and test. Prior to co-founding ACI, he has held engineering and senior management positions at Northrop-Grumman, LearFan Corp, Avidyne Corp, and Sight, Sound, & Motion Corp (SSM). He is a former US Naval officer and aviator.

Mr. Willard has led engineering teams on projects ranging from weapon systems to business jets to commercial avionics. He has managed large hardware-software programs for advanced applications involving sensors, guidance systems, and scientific displays. He also led the development and FAA certification of the primary and multifunction flight displays (PFD, MFD) for general aviation aircraft, and was the program manager and chief engineer for a tactical, terminally guided UAV. Mr. Willard’s capabilities include development and coding of aerospace simulations and visualization tools, developing and verifying avionics hardware/software to FAA-imposed RTCA DO-160/178B standards, and managing complex aerospace programs. He has an in-depth background in system integration and HITL (hardware-in-the-loop) testing.

Mr. Willard received a BS-Physics from the US Naval Academy and is a graduate of the Naval Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) and the Defense Systems Management College (DSMC). He has over 2000 hours in tactical jets as a US Navy pilot.
